Guardians of Life: A Comprehensive Overview of the Vital Organs in the Human Body

Humans possess numerous organs that serve specific purposes within our bodies, part of organ systems that work collectively to perform vital functions.
The brain stores information, allows us to think and learn, and regulates all bodily processes such as digestion, heart rate and breathing.
The Heart
Our heart is at the core of our circulatory system, pumping blood all throughout our bodies - an activity essential to life itself.
Like water and sewer pipes, blood vessels provide oxygen, nutrients and waste from our cells to other areas in our bodies. Capillaries are the tiniest form of these blood vessels.
The heart is a four-chambered organ roughly the size of a fist, composed of two chambers known as atria and two bottom chambers known as ventricles, each connected to one of three pathways to collect deoxygenated blood from different areas via its respective aorta, right ventricle and pulmonary artery, left ventricle pumps oxygen-rich blood out through left ventricle to the rest of body via septa walls separating two sides preventing different kinds of blood from mixing together. Muscular walls known as septa divide this four-chambered organ into two sides to prevent blood from mixing between different kinds.
The Brain
The brain serves as the seat of intelligence, interpreter of sensation, initiator of body movement and controller of behavior. The Kidneys
Kidneys play an essential role in maintaining proper fluid levels and producing hormones to regulate vital functions such as blood pressure and salt intake in our blood. Furthermore, kidneys also aid bone strength by producing an important hormone known as erythropoietin that instructs bone marrow to produce red blood cells.
Blood enters the kidney through its renal artery and enters via its hilus (HY-luss), an indentation in its center that gives it its bean-shaped form. From here it travels through millions of small units for filtering called nephrons containing filters called glomeruli which drain into tubules where their fluid flows out via tubules for removal into urine as necessary.
The Liver
The liver is your body's largest solid organ and weighs approximately three pounds, located in the upper right section of your abdomen under your ribs and below the diaphragm. Serving as one of the body's main digestive processes, its job involves performing over 500 tasks daily.
The liver plays an essential role in our bodies by filtering blood from the intestines and absorbing vital vitamins and minerals from food. Furthermore, it produces and excretes bile for fat metabolism as well as absorption of vitamin K through diet.
The liver produces proteins essential for building and sustaining tissues, as well as several essential blood proteins such as albumin and several clotting factors. Furthermore, it regulates blood volume while eliminating old red blood cells.
The Lungs
The lungs help the body get and distribute oxygen. Composed of millions of tiny air sacs known as alveoli (pronounced VEE-ohl-ee), oxygen travels across its walls into blood through capillaries before being carried throughout the rest of the body's cells that need it, returning back into the lungs where carbon dioxide from these cells can be exhaled into the atmosphere through exhalation.
Each lung contains elastic tissue that allows it to inflate and deflate easily, as well as being covered by an airtight protective covering called the pleura (pronounced PLEUR-uh). Lungs are suspended within the chest cavity called the thorax by means of ribs and muscles. A series of passageways called the bronchial tree connect to your lungs. From here, these trees branch off into lobar bronchi for each lung lobe before branching off again into tertiary segmental bronchi - one for every segmental lung lobe.
