Mastering Internal Organs Anatomy: Essential Knowledge for Health Professionals

Health literacy - the ability to access, process, and understand health information and services - requires having some anatomy knowledge. Being health literate also assists with making decisions regarding where and when to seek medical treatment, such as going to the emergency department.

Anatomy is the study of living things. Traditionally, this involved dissecting animals and humans - however now imaging techniques such as CT scans, MRI, X-rays and ultrasound enable people to visualize anatomical structures without cutting into them!

Gross Anatomy

Gross anatomy (often called macroscopic anatomy) refers to structures visible to the naked eye. This study may include dissection or non-invasive methods like medical imaging. As knowledge of gross anatomy is part of most health professional training courses, understanding it may also be an asset when entering practice.

Physicians frequently describe their time spent in gross anatomy lab as one of the most formative experiences during medical school. It provides essential training in understanding altered structure and function in disease, as well as developing physical examination skills.

Learning the intricacies of internal organs can be daunting. To facilitate student understanding of what lies within, everyday experiences should serve to build their understanding. Visits to the doctor, medical operations/procedures, injuries and medical imaging/scans are excellent ways for developing students' knowledge about human bodies. While teaching anatomy according to regions or systems may work, this scoping review will identify and assess which gross anatomy curriculum, pedagogy and method may provide sufficient context.

Systemic Anatomy                              

Human systemic anatomy explores the relationships among organs and how they work together in the human body. It primarily examines organ systems - groups of tissues with similar functions - such as those within our integumentary, muscular-skeletal, nervous-endocrine cardiovascular respiratory digestive urinary and reproductive systems.

Human anatomy studies are typically taught through dissection. Mastering anatomy requires a multi-modal approach that incorporates visual, kinesthetic, and audio learning styles. Teaching anatomy according to regions and systems has traditionally been the gold standard; however it should be supplemented with methods that place structures into context of clinical relevance - this could include case reports and cross-sections as examples of such applications - for greater retention. Case Reports

Anatomy must be taught contextually; regions and systems alone do not provide enough of this context. Therefore, other methods must be utilized to relate structures to one another within clinical settings thereby improving learning and retention; two such techniques include case reports and cross-sections.

Case reports provide a concise narrative that details, for medical or scientific purposes, information about unani medicine and medical issue experienced by one individual patient. Although not considered evidence in medical journals' hierarchy of evidence systems, case reports can have considerable educational value and should not be dismissed outright as unnecessary or irrelevant.

Discussion This section should present existing theories and research findings related to the case study's key issue, and demonstrate why this case stands out from others and deserves publication. In addition, depending on journal requirements, discussion may also provide an opportunity to draw conclusions or suggest implications for clinical practice.
